MUCUS, PLAQUE, TOXINS, ACIDS AND FREE RADICALS

Most naturopaths and allopathic doctors that concern themselves with disease prevention and the connection to mucus or mucoid plaque agree that the great majority of our diseases are progressive only from one origin. That origin is the accumulation of layers of plaque that line the inner walls of the small and large intestines.

This plaque is a natural response to over acidification in the small intestines. This condition happens whenever we ingest processed foods, meat, dairy products, wheat, overly cooked foods, sugar, foods that are commercially grown and laden with pesticides and growth hormones habitually, and we are not taking in enough clean alkaline foods and drinks.

In a balanced system, the stomach is acidic. This hydrochloric acid is necessary for the breaking down of the food that we’ve chewed and swallowed. The stomach lining is designed to withstand the digestive juices which break the food down to a finer consistency. Upon leaving the stomach, this food goes into the small intestines. This is where the acidic properties are made alkaline by a bicarbonate solution from the pancreas (in addition to insulin) and the bile form the gall bladder. The small intestines are the place where the nutrients from the food, broken down in the stomach, are sent to the liver and blood stream for further processing and distribution to every cell in the body.

That is in an IDEAL body! However, because the typical American diet, lack of exercise, negative emotional states and stress, our internal environment is more and more acidic. Our body’s balanced ph should be alkaline ranging from 7.3-7.4. When the body’s ph becomes acidic, the internal organs are acidic. The bile form the gall bladder becomes acidic (which should have a ph of 8.0) the liver sends mucus into the small and large intestines in an effort to protect the sensitive inner linings of these intestines that are designed to encounter alkalinity. If we habitually subject ourselves to the wrong lifestyle choices, the production of this mucus continues to line the inner walls in layers that can range from 1/8 – ½ inches thick. As the layers increase in number, so do their resilience. They can be likened to glue or rubber in some instances clinging stubbornly to the intestinal walls. Although the small intestine is critical for optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients, the mucoid coating prevents a great amount of the nutrients from being absorbed. This situation creates the onset of malnutrition which means that all of the cells in our bodies are starved of life-giving nutrients. The body’s attempt to rectify this condition involves the craving for those ill absorbed nutrients by eating more food.

Another problem that arises comes from the undigested food that sits in the intestines longer than it should. The mucoid lining not only prevents a regular flow of nutrients out of the intestines, but creates a toxic environment due to the rotting of the undigested food. This putrification feeds the harmful bacteria (e.coli etc) and parasites that now house and protect themselves in the mucoid linings. These are the beginnings and perpetuation of constipation. The waste moves slowly through us because the mucoid layers harden and prevent full peristalsis, which is the way food is moved along the intestinal tract by rhythmic contractions of the muscles within the intestinal walls.

The continual rotting of the waste sends more and more toxins into our blood streams and further tips the scales of the ph balance to acidity. This condition is called auto-intoxication or self poisoning. This not only affects our physical being, but our emotional, mental and spiritual states as well.

If nothing is done to reverse this condition, our bodies take measures to reestablish alkalinity and purity by attempting to rid the toxins from the blood stream through the skin or creating more fat cells in an effort to absorb the acidic toxins and keep them from doing greater harm. All kinds of ways are attempted automatically to get back in balance despite our erroneous choices and they manifest in what we call disease.

The appearance of any disease simply means that normally functionally systems have been worn down by the corrosion of acid to the point where the body’s natural defenses are ineffectual. The name of the dis-ease is dependent upon where the poisons predominate in the body.

It is mentioned in texts (Bible, Buddhist scriptures, and various channelings), that our bodies were designed to last from 600-800 years. That may seem like a myth to some, but only because of our frame of reference. If our bodies are polluted then our minds and imaginations are as well and we cut ourselves off from the realm of possibility and potential.

HOW TO REVERSE DISEASE

Most naturopaths and allopathic doctors that have researched the reality of the dangerous relationship between mucus, acidity, toxins and disease agree that the condition can be reversed and optimal health maintained through cleansing away the toxic conditions. This can be achieved with alkaline, organic foods (80% of diet) purified, alkaline water, deep breathing, regular exercise, the development of an uplifting, positive frame of mind and a conscious effort to clean the intestines though the use of various herbs, juices and water.

We create the environment that supports the existence of disease. Cutting out the diseased areas does not address the reason that disease exists. Change the environment and change the condition. As George Clinton said “Free your mind and you’re a___ will follow.” And Bob Marley in “Redemption Song” said “emancipate yourselves form mental slavery – none but ourselves can free our minds!”

Imani's Personal Story

I have been a Health Educator and Health Scientist most of my adult life. With both Ivy League and grass roots training and experience, I have dedicated my life to educating others about healthy options and lifestyles. In my spare time I manage a Teen Theater Program entitled Y.E.S. 4 Health, that trains young peer educators who educate other teens about important health issues through drama, dance and song. I also hold Health Haiku Workshops that teach youth and mentors about health issues using haiku and other forms of poetry. In a word, this is what I love doing. In spite of this love, I have had a couple of persistent health challenges over the years.



I will only give the short version and save the best for the Friday evening Health and Wellness seminars. Besides the longer version might take up too much space! I have had three major health improvements since drinking Kangen Alkaline Water. I will share 2 of those here. We were introduced to this alkaline water in early October. Brianna- now a good friend, was bringing the water to Rahn at the store and eventually we started trying it. I would drink an occassional glass, however I had not received information about the potential of the water to boost my alkalinity and serve as a strong antioxidant. After seeing a video I was a little bit of a doubter, but started drinking the water to see if I could feel the difference....Well, after a few days of serious guzzling - my chronic lower back pain of over 15 years WAS GONE! Needless to say, I started to get a little excited. My Chiropractor has not seen me (except for a social function back in October) since I have been drinking the water...The second major story is that of my skin. I have had major skin problems every winter. Dry itchy patches would form on my arms, legs and hips - all of my life. I started akalizing with greens a couple of years ago and got some relief, however this is the first winter that my skin is smooth as silk! Anyone that really knows me, knows that I have suffered through many winters. Okay, so I am even more excited - back and skin! I will share more when I see you. I am still a work in progress - as most of us are. I am making little changes in my diet to enhance the alkalizing affects. Exercise has also been really important in my life. Acid or alkaline.

What is all of this that I'm hearing about acidity and alkalinity regarding our bodies pH. I thought that the body will regulate the pH of any food or drink to the optimal pH (7.4).


It is true that our bodies should be 7.4 overall. However, if we continue to take in acidic food and drink, our bodies become more acidic. There are certain systems within our bodies that need to be acidic. The stomach is designed to withstand the acidity of the digestive juices necessary to break down food but once in the small intestines, this acidic chyme is made more alkaline by a bicarbonate type of substance that comes from the pancreas. Our urinary tract also needs to be acidic in order to disallow any harmful bacteria from sticking to the walls of that tract, (kidneys, bladder, etc).
Overall, our bodies should be more alkaline for the proper balance of our metabolism .
